Another thing I noticed with xpadder is that I can reassign buttons for certain games when certain games have preset button layouts that cant be edited. Also, if I ever change my mind about the set up I can change it as well. So I am sure that is fine for some but in the same amount of time I quickly mapped my controller on xpadder according to the xbox manual. I also think the key to the whole thing lies in what you said that the files that are preset are "nearly" complete.
