Developer id Software recently rebooted another of its iconic franchises, Doom, with the release of 2016's Doom and 2020's Doom Eternal. June 2021 marked the 25th anniversary of Quake's original release date, so many fans were already anticipating an exciting reveal at QuakeCon 2021. While an in-depth remaster of the original title is a great love-letter to its history, many fans were expecting to see a brand-new Quake installment announced during the event.
